-Slightly larger than neutrophils. -Usually round with smooth margins but often have one or more pseudopod protrusions. -The nucleus may take one of many shapes: round, oval, indented, band shaped, folded, lobulated. -Nuclear chromatin may be moderately clumped but is less dense than neutrophils or lymphocytes. -Usually there are no (or a single small) nucleoli. -The N:C ratio is 4:1 to 2:1. -The cytoplasm is abundant, stains gray or grayish-blue (ground-glass appearance), and may contain fine, evenly distributed, pink azurophilic granules and/or vacuoles. -Phagocytized particles may be present in the cytoplasm. |
