Specimen collection instructions

 

 

Important notes:

Requests for OAP are reflexed to Giardia and Cryptosporidium Antigen testing. Complete OAP available on consult. Not accepted for in-patient whose length of hospital stay is more than 3 days without consultation. Tests for C. difficile should be considered for these patients. No more than 3 separate stool specimens, preferably on 3 separate days will be accepted without consultation.

Rejection criteria:

Swab, unlabeled or mislabeled specimen, specimen on patient hospitalized more than 3 days.

Transportation notes:

within 1hr, RT; 1-24hr, 4C

Specimen preparation:

Pass stool directly into a clean, dry container. Transfer stool to Orange-Cap (CNS) Vial to red line, shake to mix well. Transfer rest of stool to clean jar.
