Important notes: ESwab is the required swab transport system. Submit fluid in green top vacutainer tube; prep top of tube with alcohol pad for sterility. All anaerobic cultures include an aerobic culture and a gram stain automatically, Do not order them separately. Bone and tissue are always ordered as anaerobes. Sputum and catheter tips are never acceptable for anaerobic culture.
Rejection criteria: Swab or fluid not in anaerobic transport system, leaking container, submited in syringe, urine, sputum,catheter tip, unlableled or mislabeled specimen.
Transportation notes: within 2 hr, RT
Specimen preparation: All specimens for Microbiology must be submitted ASAP to maximize yeild.
