pH Waived Testing Procedure

Assessment of pH methods at MCL

Specimen:  Vaginal Pool

Testing:  Test the sample in the fresh state

• Tear off 1-2 inches of the hydrazine pH paper
• Dip into fluid
• Compare the color of paper against the color chart included with the paper
• Record the results in the patient’s medical record: Write your name, the date, time and findings on the patient’s chart

Quality control:

• Maintain the proper storage conditions by keeping the paper in the original packaging and keep it closed
• Do not use units that are in suspect conditions due to improper storage
• Follow the procedural instructions exactly
• There are no external quality controls to be performed at the unit level
• The laboratory performs the external quality control. A label will be attached to the paper containers after QC has been performed. Do Not Remove.
• Do not use pH paper from containers without a QC label
