-Red cells characterized by a central hemoglobinized area surrounded by pallor giving the cell the classic "target", Mexican hat or "bullseye" appearance. -Seen in patients who are jaundiced or in patients with liver disease. -Seen in patients post splenectomy. -Also seen as an artifact with excessive EDTA or slow drying smears. |
