| The Trauma Program at Medical Center of Louisiana has a long history of providing care to critically injured trauma patients in this area of the state. The Trauma Team requires the cohesive medical approach of physicians, nurses, technicians, therapists, and ancillary staff to assure that the trauma patient is evaluated, resuscitated and treated expeditiously and appropriately. |

Medical Center of Louisiana at New
Orleans, formally a Level 1 Trauma Center, began operating Trauma Services at Elmwood Medical Center on April 24, 2006. Our return to University Hospital took place on February 22, 2007. We are presently following the American College Surgeons (ACS) guidelines and will reapply for Level 1 designation in the near future. The Elmwood location had everything required of a Level 1 Trauma Center and as such notified the ACS of our intent to regain our designation.
In the past MCLNO (Charity Hospital) was the only Level 1 Trauma Center servicing the New Orleans Metropolitan area. Since returning to operation, we have treated more than 1400 patients meeting trauma criteria. Our dedication to providing excellent Trauma care and our stellar reputation remains intact.
The new state of the art Trauma Emergency Room and Trauma Intensive Care Unit will serve the community well and have a major impact on the care of the Trauma patient. The new Heliport will allow us to have better access to the Trauma patient and save precious time for the Trauma Team to begin the Trauma Assessment/Resuscitation. |
